Radioactive

The winds are strong
But she’s holding on
The world says she’s wrong
But her strength hasn’t gone

She’s fighting against the tide
With all her might
Only her husband by her side
To prove that she’s right

So she takes a test tube
Does some reactions
That also include
Some chemical transactions

She studies pitchblende
And there are radiations
They become her friend
And deep fascinations

More radiations than uranium
But how can that be?
For the reaction to be spontaneous
There must be another key!

After careful examination
She has reason to believe
She proclaims using her education
That there are new elements to reveal

Not one but two
Elements she discovers
A mystery out of the blue
She finally uncovers

Names one Polonium
To honour her nation
And the other Radium
Which in Latin means radiation

With perseverance and determination
She wins the Nobel Prize
She becomes an inspiration
To everyone’s surprise!

The only one to win a Nobel
In both Physics and Chemistry
For a woman, she did well
Such is her history

One of the greatest scientists
Everyone will agree
Her name is on the top of all lists
Yes, she is MADAME CURIE!

Marie Curie was a Polish and naturalized-French physicist and chemist who developed the theory of radioactivity (a term she coined). She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, the first person and only woman to win twice and the only one to win in two different sciences. She discovered two elements, polonium and radium. She is regarded as an icon in the scientific world.
